Accommodations range from deluxe resorts to campsites, youth hostels and basic, locally owned properties. Most lodging is clean and acceptable, with features to accommodate physically disabled people, and most have air-conditioning, telephone facilities, bar and restaurant services, and satellite television channels.
Hotels are readily available year-round, and there is quite a variety to select from. However, overcrowding is common in St. Gilles, so book well in advance. There are a number of pleasant fermes-auberges: farms that offer bed-and-breakfast arrangements.
For travelers interested in extended hikes and mountain climbing, there are several mountain hostels, called gites, located throughout the island that provide overnight accommodations. Contact the Office de Tourisme in St. Denis for reservations and information.
To reserve a campsite, contact Monsieur le President de la FRAIM, 5 Rue Edouard, Place de la Cathedrale, 97400 St. Denis.
