This is the first state-operated museum to devote itself entirely to Native American culture. Exhibits illustrate the lifestyle of the indigenous peoples of California, as well as the native plants and animals they relied upon. The museum contains intricate basketry, clothing and beadwork exemplifying the work of many of California's native tribes. Outside the museum is an area demonstrating the various styles of Native American structures. Hands-on crafts demonstrations and seasonal programs are presented. Daily 10 am-5 pm. US$2 adults. 2618 K St. (next to Sutter's Fort), Sacramento. Phone 916-324-0971. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=486.
