This museum (part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco) draws visitors to its home in Golden Gate Park with its 25,000-piece collection of American art and works from indigenous peoples in Africa, Oceana and the Americas. The dramatic architecture incorporates a striking copper facade and an observation tower that rises 144 ft/45 m above the treetops of Golden Gate Park. Some contemporary art is displayed, and a sculpture garden is adjacent to the cafe, which serves delicious seasonal fare. Do visit the ninth floor of the tower for a breathtaking 360-degree view. Museum open daily except Monday 9:30 am-5:15 pm, Friday till 8:45 pm. US$10 adults, US$7 seniors, US$6 youths ages 13-17 and college students with ID, free for children 12 and younger.
