Santa Barbara offers a variety of accommodations ranging from hostels to high-end resorts. Hotels are scattered throughout the city, but prime rooms are closer to the water. The Upham Hotel has been in operation since 1871. It is said to be the oldest hotel in California.
Santa Barbara also has its fair share of beach houses and bed-and-breakfasts. It is advisable to make reservations in advance, especially during festivals and city-wide events.
