Sarlat is a pretty medieval town with winding streets, attractive buildings and the "Lantern of the Dead," a 12th-century tower set in a cemetery. This little town 90 mi/145 km east of Bordeaux is popular as a movie set because the houses, shops and streets seem to have changed very little in Sarlat since the Middle Ages. It's a popular destination, it can be extremely crowded in summer, and its shops are expensive. Parking is also a major problem, especially on Wednesday and Saturday (which are market days), so try to get there early.
