Professional Review for Sheraton Ottawa Hotel

Exterior

A Starwood chain commercial stalwart, this hotel compares very favorably to the Crowne Plaza, Delta or Marriott in terms of facilities, price or location. This one does offer a bolder color design and slightly larger guest rooms, along with Sheraton's Club Level Rooms, directed at the business traveler.

The dark, floor-to-ceiling oak-paneled lobby is luxuriously compact, efficient and businesslike. The staff at reception are courteous and efficient. Lunch is served in Sasha's Bar, which is bright with mirrors, natural woods, deco-like furnishings and faux-marbre walls. Sculpture and rich furnishings surround the Carleton Grill, which serves a la carte and buffet fare. Signature dishes are honey lemon chicken and grilled Pacific salmon fillet.

The excellent, recently renovated health facility sells outside memberships, just like at the Crowne Plaza and Westin, so expect a lunchtime and after-work crowd in the gym, pool and sauna. Other Roomfacilities include meeting space for 810 people.

Guest rooms offer all the expected Sheraton amenities: inviting residential furnishings, comfortable contemporary sofas or loveseats, large wooden work tables, high-speed Internet access and wide windows. Fine marble baths have hair dryers, phones, irons and ironing boards, and coffeemakers. Business rooms come with three phones, Internet access with wireless keyboards and workstations. Premium-level rooms feature robes, private registration, and free Continental breakfast and cocktails in a private lounge. Room service runs from 7 am to 10:30 pm. Three of the rooms are fully wheelchair accessible, as are all the meeting spaces plus the bar and the restaurant.

Pet owners should ask about the Sweet Sleeper Dog Bed. This operation is a solid, comfortable choice.

Company Overview for Sheraton Hotels & Resorts

The Sheraton brand is currently undergoing a massive US$1.7 billion makeover. Renovations are scheduled to be complete sometime in 2009. The project is all-inclusive, seeking to update everything from bedding, to guestroom color schemes and public spaces. Highlights of the new design include flat-panel TVs, in-room coffemakers with Starbucks coffee, branded bathroom amenities by Bliss, pillow top mattresses, new lobbies with game tables, plants and Wi-Fi, larger fitness rooms with more equipment and the Link Café, an on-site eatery and coffee shop with individual work spaces.

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts offers mid- to upscale hotels in major cities and resort locations worldwide. It caters to business, leisure and family travel and offers a variety of meeting spaces, conference spaces and business facilities. Sheraton is the most recognizable name in the family of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

Guest rooms typically include free high-speed Internet access, the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed, tea/coffeemaker, voice mail, maid service, dual-line telephone, in-room movies, data ports, alarm clock radio, refrigerator, oversized desk, room service, air-conditioning, iron and ironing board, cable TV, hair dryer and wake-up service. All Sheratons offer handicap-accessible rooms and smoke-free rooms.

Services and facilities often include luggage assistance, complimentary parking, audiovisual staff, 24-hour business center, meeting space, wireless Internet access in public spaces, faxing and copying service, fitness facility, concierge service, laundry/valet service, 24-hour front desk and swimming pool.

Sheraton Resorts offers the same or comparable amenities to Sheraton Hotels, with increased recreational activities and an exotic location.

At all Sheraton locations, children stay free with a paying adult as long as they use existing bedding.

The Airport Hotels Program is offered in many major international gateway cities. The program features Body Clock Cuisine designed to fight the effects of jet lag (Europe only), Day Break Service which offers three- and seven-hour room rates and includes full use of hotel facilities and meeting rooms for 50% off, a Transit Survival Kit (includes a toothbrush, T-shirt, face cream, razor, deodorant, mouthwash, slippers and comb/brush) and Extended Laundry Service.
