Three km west of Faaa Airport and 9 km west of Papeete, this contemporary hotel was built in the early 1970s but substantially remodeled in 2004.
It resembles a pyramid set in a lagoonside coconut grove along a crescent of dark sand. The location offers views of Moorea, but the beach here is not a swimmer's delight.
Sitting areas are strategically located to take advantage of ceiling fans in the bright, spacious lobby. Nearby, guests find an Internet
kiosk, a black pearl shop, and a boutique.
An indoor restaurant off the lobby offers good French and Japanese food for dinner, while an open-air dining room by the pool provides all-meal buffets from its display kitchen plus weekly island feasts and twice-weekly Tahitian dance extravaganzas. The poolside bar serves daytime snacks.
Imported white sand provides a sunning area between the gray-sand natural beach and the large pool. Two lighted tennis
courts also provide fresh-air fun, as do diving and snorkeling. The resort has a massage room.
Meeting capacity is 400. A self-serve business center has Internet access, and wireless access is present throughout the building.
Although completely sporting high-tech Euro decor and baths, the standardized guest rooms are still compact. They feature TVs, data-port phones, high-speed Internet ports, round tables, chairs, minibars, coffeemakers and two singles or queen beds.
The medium-sized baths have hair dryers and walk-in showers with large rain-forest shower heads. Unfurnished balconies survey Moorea or the mountains. Smoke-free rooms are offered.
The overhaul left this hotel much improved, but it still ranks below Le Meridien, Sheraton and InterContinental.
