The island's 40 hotels—the largest of which has 76 rooms—range from no-frills bed-and-breakfasts to several deluxe properties. Hotels are typically independently owned and operated; you won't find big, brand-named properties there. Unlike other Caribbean islands, you'll find as many hotels located inland (to take advantage of breathtaking hillside views) as on the beach.
Villas are available for rent, many with their own pools, Jacuzzis and staff. In fact, St. Barts is probably the best place in the Caribbean to rent a villa, with an amazing selection of properties. Those planning to visit in high season must plan ahead, because many of the best villas and hotels are reserved a year in advance.
