This grand mansion was designed to be the residence of the British governors who oversaw Newfoundland's affairs. Government House, which occupies the easternmost section of Military Road, is now the home of the province's lieutenant governor and hosts members of the British royal family when they visit. It is the only building in North America that has a moat surrounding it. Visitors are welcome to sign the guest book outside and stroll through the gardens.
