The capital of Lower Austria, St. Polten has a nice pedestrian zone with gracious old buildings, churches, a Diocese museum and the Museum of the Province of Lower Austria. The interior of the Romanesque cathedral is one of the finest examples of baroque design in Austria. A must for families is the colorful, miniature trolley train—it includes an audio tour with headphones (in multiple languages) and takes visitors on a 50-minute excursion around the city's main sites. St. Polten, a convenient 35 mi/50 km west of Vienna, is also famous for its shopping and sports facilities, including a golf course.
