Built by the got-it, flaunt-it lumber barons during the height of the logging era, Stillwater is a charming town along the scenic St. Croix River. Many of the Victorian mansions now serve as bed-and-breakfasts. The historic brick storefronts of Main Street house bookstores, antiques shops, stores selling outdoor gear, and a winery, as well as intriguing coffeehouses, pubs and cafes. Stillwater is 25 mi/40 km east of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
