Nayarit's state capital, Tepic is set amid several volcanoes. The city's other attractions include many museums (one that's housed in an 18th-century house) and a 10-ft/3-m cross made of hay outside a former convent (it's said to have displayed miraculous powers of healing since the 1600s). The Museo de Artes Populares and the Museo Regional de Nayarit have good collections of embroidery, paintings and ceramics by the Huichol Indians. 115 mi/185 km northwest of Guadalajara.
