This slender 46-story tower just west of The Plaza bases its high rates more on the gilded location and soaring views of Central Park than on inherent quality. Located in the midtown business district, the hotel is convenient to Fifth Avenue shopping, Broadway theaters, Museum Mile, Radio City and Lincoln Center. Updating is fairly regular, and the hotel has developed a loyal cheering section. That said, many find the brash traditional decor and bold, clashing colors both dated and tacky.
