Located 6,000 ft up the southern slopes of Mount Hood, this is North America's only year-round ski resort and also one of the country's great mountain lodges, though like many government-run lodges, guest quarters leave much room for improvement with their thin walls and aging furnishings. Still, few hotels match this one's authentic wilderness atmosphere, save The Ahwahnee in Yosemite.
