On the edge of the Grand Erg, this red-sandstone town and the surrounding area offer an opportunity to see pink (actually, yellowish-pink) sand dunes.
The local irrigation system, with water coming from ancient buried pipes, is also interesting. Other attractions include fortresses (
ksars), petrified wood and the palm grove (take a trip there by four-wheel-drive vehicle). Side trips can be made to
Kali, in Aghlad oasis. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights there.
