Tongsa is near the center of Bhutan. It has a most impressive Dzong built on a spur, with a watchtower, Ta Dzong, on the hillside.
The drive there via Gangtey and Wangdiphodrang is spectacular. It's also a good place to overnight while traveling to the eastern and southern parts of the country. The Tongsa Tsechu festival usually falls in January.
