The atoll consists of a ring of low-lying, fairly small islands. This is the largest of Belize's atolls, located about 25 mi/40 km east of Belize City. Turneffe is extremely popular among serious divers and anglers—bonefishing is especially good there. At the southern end of the chain is Caye Bokel, which has a good fishing lodge, Turneffe Island Lodge.
