In keeping with the island's national-park character, camping is possible at Cinnamon Bay Camp, Maho Bay Campgrounds and Concordia Eco-tents. It's imperative to reserve well in advance. Harmony Studios, a hilltop eco-property run by the Maho Bay company, has cottages built from recycled materials and powered by wind and solar energy.
On St. Thomas, Bluebeard's Castle, named for the infamous pirate, is now a hotel and a stop on most island tours. Its faux-sugar mill is a popular spot for weddings.
