This is one of the best places for a short hike on Maui. The Iao Needle, a 1,200-ft-/366-m-tall green monolith, is impressive. Maui's largest stream flows through the park, descending from one of the wettest spots on the planet: An average of 1 in/2.5 cm of rain falls each day on the peaks of the West Maui Mountains. Along the park's hiking trails are giant tree ferns, and moonstones sparkle in the creek beds. Gate opens daily 7 am-7 pm. Iao Valley Road (northwest of Kahului), Wailuku. Phone 808-984-8109.
