This uninhabited island was once home to pirates, who, like visitors today, had to take any comforts they needed with them. The island currently has no facilities. That will change soon, as Ritz-Carlton has announced the development of a new resort, Molasses Reef, scheduled to open in 2008. Lake Catherine, the island's large saltwater lake, is where flamingos nest and other wildlife congregate. Other sights include Solitude Beach, an abandoned settlement (Yankee Town) and the ruins of sisal- and salt-industry buildings. There are also several offshore dive sites. 10 mi/16 km southwest of Providenciales.
