The sister hotel to Sheraton at Our Lucaya and likewise under Starwood management, this is the quieter half of the mega-resort's adjoining properties, popular with couples and honeymooners.
The lobby and its mezzanine are decorated with palms and gold carpeting surrounding a sitting area with many sofas and chairs to accommodate the extensive traffic that such a large outfit can expect. Beyond the lobby, where one might expect a pool, is the Great Lawn, an expansive garden area suitable for large gatherings. Four pools are situated elsewhere throughout the grounds.
Westin guests have full access to 15 specialty restaurants, including the ones located at the Sheraton. Portobello's and Irie's serve dinner only in elegant settings, while Waves Bar and Grill and Hammerhead's Bar and Grill handle lighter fare throughout the day. Havana Cay is a cigar bar situated just off the lobby, with lounge chairs and a flat-screen TV.
The three-story fitness and spa center offers a variety of services in 14 treatment rooms as well as a beauty salon. The fitness center has state-of-the-art equipment and hosts various classes such as aerobic, Tae Bo and yoga. Golfers can choose between two
18-hole courses. Four lighted tennis courts feature four different playing surfaces, including clay and grass. The on-site casino includes over 400 slots. The conference center has 17 meeting rooms of varying sizes—the largest accommodates up to 2,100 people—and a well-equipped business center.
Rooms here are larger than at the Sheraton. All are air-conditioned with bright, carpeted interiors and king beds with down pillows. All rooms have balconies, but those of seaside rooms are larger and offer the better view. All rooms include TVs, phones, safes, coffeemakers, irons and ironing boards, and robes. Combination baths are plain but adequate with hair dryers and shaving mirrors. A three-bedroom royal villa with butler service and a private pool is also an option.
The staff does a decent job of serving such a massive number of guests. Those preferring a bit more class might prefer Pelican Bay across the street, which offers guests access to all of Lucaya's facilities. The resort imposes a 25-year-old minimum age requirement for adult guests during the weeks of spring break, to avoid the party crowds.
