Wilmington Travel Guide

Wilmington Guide Overview

Wilmington, Vermont, a village located between Brattleboro and Bennington about 140 mi/230 km south of Burlington, is popular for dining, shopping (especially antiques and handicrafts) and lodging for visitors to the Mount Snow Resort area.

In the center of Wilmington you'll find the Memorial Hall Center for the Arts (also home to the Wilmington Historical Society), and its neighbor, the Crafts Inn. Both buildings date from 1902 and are nicely restored examples of the Dutch colonial style. To get a sense of the village's history, take a peek at the walls of Memorial Hall, which are decked with portraits of its founders and other important figures in its history. Or attend a concert or play there during the summer, when the center hosts its arts series.

Mount Snow Resort and its partner mountain Haystack are especially popular among New Yorkers (they're only about 200 mi/320 km from Manhattan) and Bostonians (a mere 127 mi/204 km away). There are 132 ski trails on five separate peaks to choose from—expert runs on the steep North Face will challenge the advanced skier, and novice skiers can enjoy wide trails on the sunny side of the mountain.

The resort also caters to families by offering several ski and snowboarding camps and other programs for kids. Nighttime sleigh rides and nature walks are also part of the family fun.
