The colorful Wixarica Museo de Arte Huichol is next to the basilica. A small but very interesting collection provides an introduction to the Huichol people and their art. Many Huichol spent much of the year in the rugged, inaccessible mountains outside Guadalajara; they developed a unique culture and artistic style that is presented there. Included are yarn paintings, which explain some of the Huichol myths, as well as beadwork masks and colorful traditional garments. The adjoining gift shop offers the opportunity to purchase many authentic examples of Huichol art. Monday-Saturday 9:30 am-1:30 pm and 3-6 pm, Sunday 10 am-2:45 pm. M$5 adults, M$2 children. Anexo a la Basilica de Zapopan (about 5 mi/8 km from downtown Guadalajara), Zapopan. Phone 33-3636-4430.
