This industrial city in the center of Kazakhstan has a few museums devoted to mineral extraction, but its primary appeal is its proximity to several old mausoleums of minor Kazak nobility.
The town is also near
Ulytau, which contains some of the most holy monuments of Kazak culture, such as the mausoleum of Alasha Khan. There is a good business center/guesthouse in Zhezkazgan.
565 mi/910 km west of Almaty.
